Stay Hydrated Challenge

Introducing: The Hydration Challenge!

If you’re from Texas, get ready for a scorching summer! It’s crucial to stay hydrated, especially during the hottest months, and that’s why I’m hosting a Hydration Challenge throughout June. Don’t worry if you can’t join right at the start—this challenge is open to anyone, anytime.

Why is Hydration Important?

Well, it’s all about replenishing the water in our bodies. When we’re dehydrated, our bodies can’t function at their best. Trust me, I learned this the hard way during an eventful weekend (vendor life). Upon feeling extremely dizzy, unable to focus, on the brink of an anxiety attack, headaches, and palpitations, I landed in the ER. It is there I realized I hadn’t been keeping myself hydrated enough. Despite having water and even Agua de Sandia at an all-day event, it turns out it wasn’t enough. But once they hooked me up to an IV for hydration, I quickly started feeling better—headaches and dizziness vanished, and my vision also improved!

That experience made me realize a greater value of hydration. Even though I already knew it was important, I hadn’t met my body’s demands. So, I’ve decided to dedicate the month of June to remind others to stay hydrated and invite you all to join my Hydration Challenge during these hot summer months.

Water makes up around 60% of our body. With such a significant portion of our bodies relying on water, it’s crucial to ensure we get enough every day. Unfortunately, many people fall short, leading to dehydration and even unpleasant digestive side effects like constipation and decreased nutrient absorption. Without enough hydration, we aren’t balanced nor whole. That’s why hydration is our focus for this month. And hopefully we can carry out these hydrating routines for evermore.

How-To Hydrate

I am a strong advocate for celery juice or ol faithful and reliable plain water. However, I’ve decided to broaden our focus to include different forms of water intake.

  1. Liquid Hydration: Try any of these options:
  • Plain water
  • Coconut water
  • Lemonade
  • Infused water with fruits or vegetables (also known as “spa” water)
  • Tea
  • Celery juice
  • Watermelon adrenal cocktail
  • Hot water with lemons

2. Food Hydration: If you prefer eating your way to more water, consider these foods with high water content:

  • Watermelon
  • Kiwi
  • Strawberries
  • Cantaloupe
  • Peaches
  • Oranges
  • Cucumber
  • Lettuce
  • Broccoli
  • Jicama
  • Pineapple
  • Carrots
  • Radishes
  • Broth
  • Zucchini
  • Celery
  • Tomatoes
  • Bell peppers
  • Cauliflower
  • Cabbage
  • Grapefruit
  • Apples

Now, you might be wondering how much water you should be consuming daily. According to Mayo Clinic, healthy adults in temperate climates should aim for:

  • Around 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
  • Approximately 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women

To make it easier, remember that there are 16 cups in a gallon. So, if you aim for a gallon of hydration per day, you should be on the right track.

Joining the Hydration Challenge is simple. You can silently participate without sharing or announcing it to anyone—just focus on doing the work. But if you prefer a more social experience, you can find me on Instagram, where I’ll be using the hashtag #h20chuglifechallenge. I’m also considering starting a private Facebook group if there is enough interest for this challenge and other topics discusses on Instagram.

Get your water bottles ready, and stay hydrated friends!
